Monte carlo showdown

An UNBELIEVABLE card last night from

Matchroom Boxing in Monaco.

First up, McComb vs Micallef. McComb was the dominant fighter from

The beginning, winning every round, scoring knock downs and out boxing micallef at every turn; bad matchmaking or just the Irish man being THAT GOOD?!

Based on the the rest of the card, I’d say McComb is that good.

Up next was Walker vs McCormack. I already predicted this fight of the night and it didn’t disappoint.

A strong fan of Conah Walker as a fighter, and as a friend I knew what he was capable of, even though he was low on the betting heads to win. Pat McCormack I’m also a huge fan of. An exceptional talent, but possibly a jump to soon? We were about to see. From the first bell Walker dominated, the aggressor with a brilliant game plan. Zero underestimation of his opponent, he learned him and spent 11 rounds chipping away at McCormack. This isn’t to say Mccormack’s performance wasn’t brilliant. He showed some brilliant skills, but I think underestimation may have sat in his corner OR it was just a jump to fast for the prospect. Walker finished the fight inside the 12 rounds , JUST, by a demolition final flurry leaving McCormack unable to recover.

Then we had Fisher vs Balaz. A clumsy start. Fisher came out intensely, a little too fast and got clipped by 3 shots at close range. He held onto Balaz for DEAR LIFE and he should have been given a standing count. Because he held onto Balaz tightly and then fell slowly it was ruled a slip.

The second round he still wasn’t completely recovered and was surviving. He then landed a very clear low blow giving Balaz time to recover, but also giving HIMSELF time to recover. He did have a point deducted from that too. So he’s already lost the first two rounds, but by the 3rd, his legs had steadied and he was doing some much better boxing! By the fourth he finished the job by TKO after 3 knock downs.

The next fight was one women all over the world can be proud of. Nur Turhan vs Ferreira. Ferreira was known to be a heavy, heavy hitter and a fierce aggressor having never lost. But Turhan came in like a bat out of hell not only challenging Beatriz Ferreira at her own game, but defeating her by powerful TKO after knocking her down TWICE previously in the fight.

Finally, was the main event, McGrail vs Masoud. Boxing at its FINEST. A Chess match, styles that differed, and complimented. It was a fight that could have gone either way. I had it scored JUST with McGrail up but had arguments for Masoud to take the win. Masoud came away victorious as a unanimous winner. I thought the judges, 2/3, scored too wide, but I would hope this would be a fight we’d get to see again.

Well done matchroom!! A brilliant show.
