Founders Story

Founder Rachel Rose with Eddie Hearn at Fisher Allen 2 press conference

At 18 years old I fell in love with boxing after dancing in the ring at the University of Portsmouth Boxing Club’s event. I didn’t grow up in a boxing household, so had never really been exposed to the magic of what it brings.

Fast track 12 months later, I went to my first boxing class. Within the first 20 minutes they were ready to train me up for the women’s amateur championships; I was elated. The only problem was, I had just been diagnosed with a heart condition causing blackouts, breathlessness, fatigue and many other symptoms and it was refused by my specialist for me to compete. Not only that, but refused by England Boxing and ABA medics.

What a punch in the face. Pun fully intended.

I spent the next 14 years trying to nurture my love of the sport whilst navigating my frustrations of not being allowed to compete in it. I would try navigating camps but the doctors would always say no. So I gave up for a while. Finding myself running marathon distances, weight lifting and occasionally having some rounds on the pads.

After 2020 my mindset shifted and decided in 2021 to go back to boxing training, I had fully accepted that I was never going to fight, but decided to go back to basics to be technically brilliant; I wanted to learn everything there was about being a boxer, even if I, myself, couldn’t be one.

In 2022 my life was going downhill rapidly and this was the moment I decided I was going to get in the ring. I no longer cared about medical advice or being told what I could or couldn’t do, I signed up for the White Collar Club event, with a waiver that said if anything bad was to happen, it was on me.

Competing for the first time was one of the scariest and happiest days of my life. After 16 years, I had done it. And what I came away with was vital lessons about myself, which gave me the strength to change my entire life.

In 2023 everything that I had known came to an end, leaving a bad relationship, my home, my city, my job, my friends, everything I knew, to start all over again in the safety of the West Country. Moving in with my Mum again to a place she only arrived in two years previously. I made a promise to myself I would never do anything that didn’t make me happy ever again. So I trained through England Boxing to become a coach.

Where I am now

I am now England Boxing Qualified, level 2, have a Diploma in Life Coaching and have been full time boxing and mindset coaching for the past 2.5 years. Not only this, but at the beginning of 2025 I began my journey into boxing journalism, spending time at the biggest events with the biggest fighters in the game. Spending time with an elite mentality deepens my passion for understanding is greatness born, or built. Can we overcome ourselves? Can we push past narratives, internal messages and blockages? Can we look fear in the face and achieve our highest and greatest potential. And the answer is, yes. This was how Martial Arts Mindset Developed into the programme it is today and how the podcast was born.

About The Martial Arts Mindset Programme

Martial Arts Mindset was developed after realising that there were talks of martial arts being 80% mental, but no space for it to be supported or developed. It combines breath work, communication and challenging narratives to develop mental resilience, build self-belief and confidence, emotional regulation, and overcome negative thought patterns to create a powerful unshakable mindset that can carry you through any high-stakes, high-pressure environment.
